03 · The Story Experience

Everyone has a story. Most are waiting to be asked.

A first job. A wedding dance. The neighborhood that's gone now. The magazine cover that hung on a bedroom wall. In a Story Experience session, these memories come out naturally, prompted by photographs, music and the magazines on the table.

Our hosts guide small groups through gentle prompts. People listen to each other. Staff learn things they never knew about the residents they care for. And when a resident and their family want it, a story can be preserved as a keepsake.

Inside a session

An hour that people remember.

Every session is shaped by the group in the room. A typical one looks like this.

  1. A prompt

A photograph, a song or a magazine page: "Where were you when…?"

  2. Sharing

People take turns, or simply listen. Nobody is put on the spot.

  3. Making

Letters, photo walls or a short written memory to keep.

  4. Keeping

With written consent, a story can become a family keepsake or part of our Stories series.

Consent first
  • Nothing is recorded, filmed or published without written consent from the storyteller or their legal representative
  • Your community approves anything shared beyond the room
  • Families review keepsakes before anything is final
  • Anyone can change their mind at any time

Keep a story for generations.

Families can ask us to preserve a loved one's story as a printed keepsake edition or a short film.
