Our mission

Small moments of care can make a lasting difference.

Care communities are full of people with long lives behind them: careers, families, opinions about the news, favorite teams, recipes nobody else makes quite right. Too often the days there are organized around care, and not enough around connection.

Changing Hearts exists to change that, one moment at a time. We bring glossy, current magazines into care communities and turn them into shared experiences. We help new residents feel welcomed from their very first day. And we make room for the life stories that deserve an audience.

None of it is complicated. That is the point. A magazine handed over with a hello becomes a reason to talk. A thoughtful welcome tells someone they were expected. A story told and kept tells a person their life mattered.

Who we serve

Residents of senior living, assisted living and other care communities, along with the families and staff who love them. We work alongside community teams, never around them.

How it's possible

Local businesses, magazine publishers and individual supporters make our programs possible. They give generously, and in return we give them a clear account of what happened, never advertising aimed at residents.

What we value

Four ideas we won't trade.

These shape every program, every partner conversation and every story we tell.

  1. 01

    Joy is not a luxury

Pleasure, curiosity and laughter belong in care. A good magazine and a good conversation are part of a good day.

  2. 02

    Everyone is still someone

We meet people as the readers, fans, cooks and storytellers they have always been, not as patients.

  3. 03

Small and steady beats big and rare

A monthly moment people look forward to does more than an occasional event that is quickly forgotten.

  4. 04

    Show the work honestly

We report what we delivered, where and when. We never inflate numbers or publish a story without consent.

Our approach

Heart-led. Thoughtfully run.

Kindness deserves care behind the scenes, too. We coordinate every program so it never becomes extra work for a busy team.

  1. Listen first

We learn the residents, the rhythm of the week, and what staff need from us (and what they don't).

  2. Make it happen

We coordinate people, magazines and materials with clear responsibilities and a simple schedule.

  3. Close the loop

Communities and partners receive a concise, dated recap and the next opportunity to help.

Our promises

Dignity is not optional.

We work with people at tender moments of their lives. These promises come before any program, partner or story.

Consent

Nothing without permission

No photo, recording or story is shared without written consent from the person or their legal representative, and the community's approval. Anyone can opt out at any time.

Privacy

Health stays private

We are not a care provider and never publish health information. We collect only what a program needs and never sell personal data.

Independence

Partners support, never steer

Sponsors are thanked clearly and honestly. They never edit residents' stories, and residents are never marketed to.

Safety

Trusted people only

Everyone who visits a community on our behalf is screened and briefed on that community's own rules.
